Join us to assemble lunches, share survival supplies, or simply offer a listening ear.
Let’s build a stronger, more caring Lansing.
-
Lunch Assembly:
Over the years, a dedicated team of volunteers has assembled meals to ensure our outreach teams are well-equipped to connect with individuals throughout the city.
Meal preparation occurs nearly every weekday, and on alternate weekends during our Saturday distributions.
Weekdays : Around 11am at 913 W Holmes Rd Ste 160
Weekends: 10am at the Fledge
Soup Ladies:
The Soup Ladies initiative comprises committed volunteers who prepare warm meals—including soups, stews, macaroni and cheese, and walking tacos—to be served at Reutter Park every other Saturday.
Baking:
The PWL Lansing Bakers group provides fresh cookies, brownies, and other baked goods to accompany the lunches distributed across all service areas. These efforts offer comfort and contribute to a sense of dignity for our neighbors within underserved populations.
Food Rescue:
PWLL collaborates with various food retailers, such as Target, to recover fresh produce, dairy, dry goods, frozen foods, meats, and select non-food items. These recovered items are used in our office meal services and delivered directly to local families in need. Volunteers play an essential role in supporting the continuity and impact of this vital service.
-
With care, volunteers will prepare harm reduction kits, hygiene kits, and first aid kits, ensuring essential supplies reach those who need them most.
Whenever resources allow, volunteers also put together kits with socks, underwear, and t-shirts, providing comfort and dignity to recipients.
These kits are made any time we are at the office Monday - Friday.
-
PWLL relies on volunteers to assist with certain office tasks and administrative responsibilities that keep the organization running smoothly. From organizing paperwork and managing schedules to helping with data entry and general coordination, these behind-the-scenes efforts are essential to our mission.
Volunteers who contribute their time and skills in the office help ensure that PWLL can continue making a meaningful impact in the community every day.
-
PWLL is actively seeking volunteers to participate in local food rescue efforts as part of our Outreach initiatives. These volunteers help recover surplus food from grocers, restaurants, and farms, ensuring that perfectly good meals and groceries are redirected to individuals and families facing food insecurity.
Our food rescues happen on Friday mornings, with pick-up, distribution/outreach and delivery volunteer opportunities available!
-
Every other Saturday at 10am, PWLL's dedicated volunteer network gathers at The Fledge, transforming the space into a hub of compassion and action.
Here, volunteers assemble an array of vital resources—nutritious food, hygiene supplies, harm reduction materials, and educational information designed to promote safer practices and empower individuals.
These lunches and supplies are then distributed at Reutter Park and across the city. We can always use more hands on deck for any part of this be it prep, transportation or distribution.
-
By contributing their creativity, energy, and unique perspectives, volunteers help to engage with the community and share important updates. Their efforts ensure that vital information reaches a wider audience.
This is probably one of our most flexible volunteer opportunities as it can be done remotely!
-
By gathering up-to-date information about harm reduction strategies, policies, and resources from across the state and country, volunteers help create a rich base of knowledge to inform workshops, presentations, and community outreach.
This is another largely remote volunteer opportunity, but of course you’re welcome to come in the office as well!
-
By organizing events, connecting with local businesses and community members, and launching innovative campaigns, these volunteers help secure essential funding for programs that address both food and housing insecurity as well as harm reduction outreach and education.
Their commitment not only generates financial support but also raises public awareness about the role harm reduction plays in fostering dignity, safety, and well-being within the community. Through their collective efforts, PWLL’s fundraising volunteers ensure that hope, compassion, and safer practices remain central to every endeavor.
